Kathy: A Multimedia Journalist

Kathy Brower is a recent graduate of the University of Memphis with an undergraduate degree in Journalism with a focus in broadcast news. She currently resides in Memphis, TN, but will be moving to Knoxville, TN in August 2013.
Kathy interned at WMC-TV Action News 5 in the Spring of 2013. Her mornings were usually spent going out with reporters and recording standups. In the afternoon, she would work with the 4 pm producer writing scripts that were frequently used in the newscast. Through this internship, Kathy has improved her writing skills and on-camera presence. She has also become familiar with Edius and ENPS.
Also in Spring 2013, Kathy was Social Media Chair for the hyper-local online newspaper, MicroMemphis: University District. She also wrote stories and created photo slideshows promoting the neighborhoods surrounding the University of Memphis.
During her college career, Kathy worked as a tour guide for the U of M and volunteered with the Memphis Tiger Network making sports videos that include highlights and interviews. Through this experience, Kathy has had the opportunity to interview NFL player Dontari Poe, U of M football and basketball players, as well as head coaches. Through working as a tour guide, Kathy has developed the skills to address large groups with no hesitation and to talk in a conversational manner.
In the Fall of 2012, Kathy participated in the student-run program, Insight News, at the University of Memphis. Kathy has anchored, produced, reported and learned how to work all of the equipment. She is known for staying calm during stressful situations and for editing quality packages in a short amount of time.
