MicroMemphis: University District
A Hyperlocal Media Project focusing on the areas surrounding the University of Memphis
Kathy served as the Social Media Chair for MicroMemphis: University District for most of the semester. She would regularly promote stories on Twitter and Facebook as well as retweet stories pertaining to the University District. Since Kathy took charge, the @UDistrictMicro twitter following has grown by 30 percent and is followed by prominent Memphis Twitter accounts, such as @Choose901, @GoMemphis, @UofMemphis, @SarahBleauFox13 and @MemphisProject. Our Twitter page also received retweets from @Choose901, @BlueTOMRecords, @lolaloca_UofM and @PPGMR (Planned Parenthood).
The 'UniversityDistrict Memphis' Facebook page has grown by 75 percent. Kathy became friends with journalists throughout Memphis on Facebook to keep up with the trending topics.
Our website went from virtually no page views to 350 views, thanks to self-promotion on social media sites.
